Welcome to Backwinded, we are glad that you are interested in becoming a part of the game.

Backwinded is a historical fantasy role-playing game. It was originally loosely inspired by G.R.R. Martin’s Game of Thrones but with time had become heavily inspired by the various historical periods of our world, namely our world’s eighteenth and early nineteenth century as well as many other sources (such as Age of Sail and Age of Piracy books and historical films, etc). We both focus on the everyday life of our characters and their interactions with others as well as the development of the general storyline of the site, where every decision and action a character makes may have an impact, small or great.

Here are the members of our staff:
Sherlock ("DrMaturin" in the chat)
Watson ("LordBreehy" in the chat)
Norrington ("LadyJulianna" in the chat)

Our mission is to have a long-lasting and fun role-playing experience, an exciting and engaging storyline, to build a fun and inclusive social community, and to nourish knowledge and interest in history.

If you need any help, have any questions, suggestions, or concerns that need addressing, always feel free to talk to us!

Getting Started!

To become a part of the game, you have to register an account! This account can either be an OOC account or a character account (with your character’s full name, properly capitalised) as Backwinded is an account-per-character game. You can also always change it once your account is activated.

Important Information you have to know:

Admittedly, we have a lot of information which must be read before you begin but we do not expect you memorise everything in one sitting. As long as you read the rules and get a sense of the setting, that will be enough for you to start your character creation.

Before we begin this Orientation Guide, here are the most important things to look at:

1. Introductions
2. Game Rules and Character Rules
3. Character Creation
4. Timeline
5. Wiki Page
6. Face/Player Base List
7. Canon Characters
8. Application

These pages give you a clear idea of how things work here and what the setting of the game is like.

If you have a character idea, it would be a great idea to post it in your thread in the Introductions because you can get feedback from other members and possibly establish links between your characters either familial or otherwise.

If you are new to Backwinded, it is recommended, but not mandatory, that you take either a Wanted Character or a Needed Position (given that you promise to be active). You can also look at Canon Characters or characters which need to be adopted at the Adoptions. This is a great way to become involved in plots quickly as Backwinded relies on the interactions and decisions between characters to further the main plot (Longren's empire and its possible deterioration as a result of war against other countries, governmental corruption, and various other outside factors).

For in-depth information about creating specific character types and how to integrate yourself into the plot correctly, you should take a look at the Character Creation Guide. To see what types of characters have already been made, you can look at the Character Directory, which holds the Yellow Pages, a grand list of all active characters and NPCs on the site.

Application Process

Once you’ve gained an idea of what type of character you will be making, it’s time to begin the application. Do not post an unfinished application, otherwise it will be deleted and private messaged to you. When it’s finished, you can post it.

Applications are reviewed by at least two staff members and this should happen within the next twenty four hours. If not, it should not take any longer than two days to hear from the staff. If your application requires any edits, you will be given a private message with what needs to be fixed as well as any suggestions. Once you make an edits, PM the staff member back.

Once accepted, an administrator will add the necessary information into the Character Directory and the PB/Face List for you.

What do I do after I’m accepted?

Now that you are ready to start role-playing, you’re wondering on where to thread. It’s quite simple! You can either create or reply to any open thread. Here on Backwinded, we encourage the majority of threads to be open and with more than two characters participating in order to create an engaging environment.

Still looking for some RP? You can try the In Character Discussion for some In Character chatting and gaming. There is also the Personals board, where you can advertise your open thread there or look for opportunities to opening threads with other members. Sometimes the Personals board is used to find or start specific relationships, for example: if you feel your character needs a childhood companion, a distant family relative, or you need someone eligible for an arranged marriage between your character’s children.

The Plot Proposals is another great place where you can propose mini-plots which involve a handful of members.

Good luck RPing! We hope you enjoy yourself here and if you need any help or have any questions whatsoever, do not be afraid to ask!

Cheers,
The Staff of Backwinded Wink
